New Student Information

Block Scheduling

Please keep an eye out for a message from the records office asking for your extra curricular interests. It is very important that you respond to this request and state that you will be participating in Mustang Band. This information will be used by the records/admissions office when they assemble your fall quarter schedule.

If you want to be extra sure that you are assigned to the appropriate block schedule and that you won't have any conflicts with Mustang Band, consider attending the summer advising program SOAR.

Audition Information

All students (new and returning) will be required to sign up for an audition with the Directors. This audition is actually a very relaxed interview so that we can better get to know you and your musical/marching experiences.

Please bring with you any material you are comfortable performing for the Directors. If you have no material available, the Directors will provide you with material from our library.

Audition times and sign up information will be announced at a later time.

About the Mustang Band
The Mustang Band is a large group of brass, woodwind, percussion, and color guard performers that provide entertainment at Cal Poly's athletic events. This spirited group performs a variety of arrangements and has a reasonable rehearsal schedule for the serious student. As the program continues to grow, we are always interested in new members.

The Mustang Band functions in many different ways throughout the year. In the fall, the band exists as the Pride of the Pacific, the Mustang Marching Band. The band performs at all home football games, various parades, and pep rallies. During winter quarter, the band switches into Stadium Band mode, playing at home basketball games, pep rallies, alumni functions, and parades. Finally, during the spring quarter, the members of the Mustang Band (on a volunteer basis) form the Pep Band club and focus on recruiting. The Pep Band performs at Open House, Admitted Students Day and other events in order to generate interest in Cal Poly and to recruit new members for the next year.

Regardless of the time of year, the emphasis of Mustang Band is always school spirit and fun.

Rehearsals
During fall quarter the Mustang Band meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 3:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

During winter quarter the Mustang Band meets Tuesday evenings, 7:10 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

During spring quarter the Mustang Pep Band meets as needed, rehearsal times are announced via email.
